What is Granulation?

Granulation is a metalsmithing technique that has existed for thousands of years since the ancient Etruscans. It is a process where tiny balls of gold are fused to a base of gold or silver. It takes years of experience to master the technique.

What if a little granulation ball came off my piece?

Each piece with granulation is given a "strength test" to be sure that all the granules are securely attached. However it is possible a ball might come off a piece. This is normal and considered a part of regular wear with granulated jewelry. Sometimes a ball can be replaced and sometimes not, depending on the piece of jewelry.  Please don't hesitate to contact me to discuss whether your piece should have a granule re-attached.
